On October 13, 2005 I began a month long journey into remote areas of Romania: Moldavia and then Dobrogea.

I was looking for music and images of Romanians and Gypsies, some of whom, for good or for bad, live almost as they did a hundred years ago.

I wanted to seek out the people and their music before mass media took hold completely, and the golden arches of American fast food replaced the road side prayer kiosks in Moldavia.

I'm still developing projects from the material I gathered, including a DVD and a photo book. Click here to visit the blog I kept during my trip, complete with photos and recordings. (It will open in a new browser window)
